Digital radio is coming to the UK, and we want to help secure your place in the story. 

In 2018, Ofcom announced plans for small-scale digital radio (ssDAB).  This was to ensure that smaller radio stations, who were unable to afford the expensive carriage fees on regional DAB multiplexes were still able to be part of the move from AM and FM to digital broadcasting.

What is ssDAB?

Small-scale DAB is a new way of transmitting digital radio that uses advances in software and low-cost computer technology to provide a flexible and inexpensive approach to the terrestrial broadcast of digital radio services to a relatively small geographic area.

The system uses this new technology to carry a number of services on the same frequency.  This single frequency, which broadcasts multiple services is called a multiplex.

Ofcom have divided the UK into “polygons” – areas which may be covered by these new multiplexes.

South Craven

The southern part of what is known as Craven District centred around the market town of Skipton.

Worth Valley

A ward in the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, West Yorkshire. It is named after the River Worth that runs through the valley to the town of Keighley where it joins the River Aire. In the north it is bounded by North Yorkshire, in the west by Lancashire and in the south by Calderdale District. 

Wharfedale

Wharfedale is the valley of the upper parts of the River Wharfe and one of the Yorkshire Dales. It is situated in North Yorkshire, and the cities of Leeds and Bradford in West Yorkshire. It is the upper valley of the River Wharfe. Towns and villages in Wharfedale (downstream, from west to east) include Buckden, Kettlewell, Conistone, Grassington, Hebden, Bolton Abbey, Addingham, Ilkley, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Otley, Pool-in-Wharfedale, Arthington, Collingham and Wetherby..
